DAVAO DEL NORTE (PIA) -- Carmen Municipal Mayor Virginia Perandos is pushing for a municipal ordinance to sustain the 3:00 o'clock afternoon Oplan Linis (cleanliness drive) to wipe out the mosquitoes that spread the virus that causes the deadly dengue fever.

In an interview last Friday, August 9, Perandos was optimistic of positive results regarding this policy initiatives noting that members of the Sangguniang Bayan "are supportive of the call to prevent the spread of dengue."

She pushed for active participation of every sector as she revealed that Carmen ranked fourth next to the component cities of Tagum, Panabo and the Island Garden City of Samal in number of Dengue cases based on records of the Provincial Health Office, she said.

Perandos issued on August 05 the Memorandum Circular No. 5 directing all government offices down to the barangay level and all private/business establishments to take part in the simultaneous "Oplan Linis".

The campaign was launched on April 10, and the simultaneously clean-up took off at 3:00 p.m. but Perandos wanted this sustained even after the rainy season because Carmen has swampy areas.

She visited several barangays and intended to visit other areas during the next round of Oplan Linis. (PIA /JMDA)
